Enough is as good as a feast.

It's been awhile since I focused on a minimalism truth.
Today's minimalism truth: More isn't better. It's just more.
This is a convicting truth for me, and a definite struggle. Once again, my chore this weekend is to reduce the volume of possessions we have in our home. It's just way too much. And I am exhausted trying to keep up.

having more DUPLO blocks seems to result in more spread around, not more playing |
I think this is a hard truth for me because I struggle with contentment. That, yes, what I have is more than enough. I don't need the newest whatever; I only wear the same 2 pairs of jeans and 4 t-shirts, so more clothes really aren't necessary! My children have more toys than they know what to do with; and it goes on and on.
But, I am taking this truth to heart, and will really be working on it in the coming months.

W has fully embraced the less is more mantra for his daily dress And no, he's not potty trained yet, he just wears underwear over his diaper |
A very timely post for me to read. I spent three hours yesterday minimalizing the playroom shared by my three kids and that is just the start. Less is more. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing, isn't it, how much time you can spend picking up kids' stuff?
Deletegreat reminder! our culture is always telling us we need more! I need more contentment! We have so much here in America. Great post.
ReplyDeleteContentment is definitely a lesson I'm learning.
DeleteAin't that the truth! Legos seems to be that deadly trap. Many times I think the appeal was just hearing the sound of the bucket of legos being dumped on the floor. And, as a side note, I like W's sense of fashion...knowing that one day, I too will be wearing underwear over my diapers :-)
ReplyDeleteEvery time I step on one, my foot is numb for an hour. DUPLOS blocks don't hurt less because they're bigger.
DeleteYou've given me motivation to get rid of half of what is in my 6 yr old's closet. She has gotten almost all of it as hand-me-downs but she can't even sort through it to pick out an outfit. Thanks for the kick in the seat, fellow 31 Day Blogger!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Jennifer, glad to provide a kick in the pants when you need one! ;-) I have to do the same thing with my 4 mos old tomorrow! She's growing so fast!
DeleteYes, yes, yes! Just the other weekend we did some serious de-cluttering of the play room All we're left with is 8 million legos and some dolls. I had had enough. No one played with any of it, they just scattered it around. Less is definitely more.
ReplyDeleteDUPLO blocks are going to be what is left in our house by the end of the weekend. ;-)
