.decor + bedroom.

I'm still working on the decor series (I told you it would be sporadic!)!
New decor is one of those things that goes on the back burner budget-wise...and an emergency root-canal sort took care of that sort of thing for awhile.
Anyways! I just wanted to share a corner of my bedroom.

If you remember here, I shared about this gorgeous fabric I bought...well, haha, lo and behold HomeGoods had pillows made out of the same fabric!
So, of course I had to get one!

And these great lanterns were a steal for  $1 each at Target...

Which is the perfect price for me...since my boys think they are the best things ever.

.busy bee.

I haven't forgotten you all, dear friends!!

I have been busy as a bee getting ready for my first expo as a vendor!!

I've been silkscreening napkins...

placemats...

tablerunners...and so much more!!

I am so excited. One month to go!

.movies + food.

I am a big movie watcher. During my boys' naptimes, after they go to bed...if I am doing a project, I like to turn on a movie to keep me company.
One of my favorites is Julie and Julia. Have you seen it?

Meryl Streep plays Julia Child so well...only Julia Child herself would be better.
My favorite aspect of this movie is the two women learning to thrive in new situations. That is something I have been working really hard at, and this is just a great movie for that!

And I love the fashion. It's adorable. Julia Child's clothing is so fun. Her clothing is all monogrammed and beautiful.

I adore the jewelry. Julia wears pearls in the kitchen, and always accessorizes with a monogram brooch that is so darling...I wonder where I could find a monogram brooch?

And what delicious looking food! It's definitely not a movie to watch when you are on a diet!

I'd love to share with you some of my favorite movies. As with everything on this little corner of the 'net, I'm just sharing my opinions. Not all movies I share may be suitable for children to watch. I'm not a child, and often watch movies during my boys' naps. You might not like movies I love...because that would make this life more than a bit boring.

.beans + cake.

Goodness, I feel like it has been forever since I posted a recipe.

As you may have read here,  I am on a gluten free (and much more free) diet. Which means a lot of common foods are out.
Gluten free dinners are pretty simple, but when it comes to dessert...
Sometimes you just need a big ol' slice of cake.
That's where this recipe comes in!

My dear friend, J, sent me this recipe...and I have made it at least a dozen times.
I love it!
And my favorite part (besides the gluten free part) is that it is best when made at least 24 hours before eating.
How awesome is that? A dessert fit for a party that can be made days in advance? And is better the longer it sits?!

.rememberance.

Now we have inscribed a new memory alongside those others. It's a memory of tragedy and shock, of loss and mourning. But not only of loss and mourning. It's also a memory of bravery and self-sacrifice, and the love that lays down its life for a friend - even a friend whose name it never knew.

.parties + books.

I had the opportunity to host a shower for a lovely friend of mine expecting a sweet baby girl.
The theme was girls' literature.

.models + moments.

I had an aha! moment the other day and had to share.
My big boy loves to draw with pens.
He is very careful to only draw on paper so I don't mind that. But he goes through printer paper at a rather alarming rate.
Cue my aha! moment!

Like many of you, I'm sure, I get dozens of catalogs in the mail every week.
I love to look through them and then recycle them.
Now they are coloring books for little boys.

It's perfect!
He can flip through page after page and color whatever he wants.
And when he's done, I just throw it in the recycling.

And it's pretty funny to see him scribble specifically on all the models' faces and shoes.
Who knows what goes through that busy little mind.

.apples + friends.

School is back in session. Candy corn is at the grocery store. Yum. Apples are in season. Double yum.
Summer is drawing to a close and fall is coming.
Here in Florida it's more of the spirit of fall than actual fall. No leaves changing and a hundred degrees outside doesn't make for very fall-ish weather.
So we decided to make our own fall!
Nothing says fall to me more than caramel apples and candy corn.

My family and I recently hosted a very fun and easy fall party: caramel apple and popcorn party!
And as far as parties go, this one takes the cake for easy to prep and easy on the budget!

I set everything out and guests just helped themselves!
We provided apples, caramel, popcorn, candy corn, chocolate bits, and sea salt.
Our friends brought some of their favorite toppings (peanut butter cups and crushed Oreos!), pumpkin pie, and some hard cider for the grownups.
I also had some seltzer water to temper the sugary treats.

We also set out plates, bowls, squares of parchment paper, and cutting boards and knives (out of reach from smaller guests).
With everything set out, and sweet friends, it was one of my favorite parties yet.
I can't wait to do it again!

(My big boy and I took some shameless selfies while waiting for everyone to come)

.projects + holiday.

I hope you are relaxing on this holiday!

I am working on a lovely new project.
