.throwback + gardens.

Are you familiar with the internet trend of "throwback thursday" where you share a photo that is, well, a throwback to the past? I kind of like that idea. It is always fun to see how we have changed...and to reflect on our past. So join me for the next couple Thursdays for throwback thursday!

Whenever I think of what a home flower garden should look like, I think of my childhood home and the beautiful garden there. It was shady and cool and green all the time (a major perk of growing up in the Pacific Northwest!). To me, it was simply beautiful. I had two favorites in this garden that are still my favorites today: there was a lovely, old lilac tree that grew right outside my bedroom window. Lilacs are still one of my favorite flowers today. And one year my mother had a lemon verbena plant. I don't know how  old I was, but I remember being delighted with the scent transferring to my fingers. It always reminds me of Anne Shirley...

"October though it was, the the garden was still very sweet with dear, old-fashioned, unworldly flowers and shrubs -- sweet may, southern-wood, lemon verbena, allyssum, petunias, marigolds, and chrysanthemums."
Anne of the Island

What sweet memories!
